Peer Review Process
All manuscripts submitted for publication undergo peer review. The purpose of the review is to assist the editorial board in making a decision on whether to accept or reject a manuscript and to improve the quality of the manuscript through communication with the authors.
The review process is conducted as double-blind, meaning that the reviewers do not know the identity of the authors, and the authors do not know the identity of the reviewers, ensuring impartiality. The editorial board engages two to three independent external reviewers for each manuscript to obtain multiple unbiased evaluations. Under normal circumstances, the review process takes 4 to 6 weeks from the date the manuscript is sent for review.
The selection of reviewers falls under the discretionary rights of the editor and the editorial board. Reviewers must have relevant knowledge in the field addressed by the manuscript and must not be from the same institution as the author, nor have co-authored publications with any of the manuscript's authors in the recent past.
Key steps of the external/independent peer review procedure are outlined in the section Responsibilities of the Editor and Editorial Board.
Throughout the process, reviewers act independently of one another. Reviewers are not aware of the identities of other reviewers. If reviewer decisions differ (accept/reject), the editor-in-chief may seek the opinion of additional reviewers.
During the review process, the editor may request additional information from the authors (including primary data) if it is necessary for evaluating the scientific contribution of the manuscript. The editor, members of the editorial board, and reviewers must treat such information as confidential and must not use it for personal gain.
The editorial board is responsible for ensuring quality control of the review. If authors have serious and well-founded objections regarding the review, the editorial office will check whether the review is objective and meets academic standards. If there is doubt about the objectivity or quality of a review, the editor and editorial board will seek the opinion of additional reviewers.
Members of the editorial board may submit their own manuscripts for publication in the Journal of the Faculty of Economics Brčko. An author who is involved in the editorial process will be excluded from the review and decision-making process regarding the acceptance or rejection of the manuscript, and oversight of the review process will be entrusted to another editorial board member.
